Distribution and Affiliates Engineer – DVB Systems

Fixed Term Contract

11 Months

To £40,000 per annum

 

We have a new opportunity for someone to join a very well known media organisation based in London.  The role of the Distribution & Affiliates Engineer includes the configuration of DVB Distribution and encryption systems, product evaluation, systems design & engineering, as well as providing technical support & Logistics functions to a range of UK and worldwide Affiliates. Working within a small team, the role is UK based with occasional overseas travel.

 

You would be responsible for ensuring DVB Distribution Systems are designed, installed and configured correctly in order to ensure compatibility with third party broadcasters in Europe, evaluating & implementing DVB broadcast equipment system and performance of in-service configuration & management; including pricing up solutions and liaison with Suppliers, Procurement, Systems Engineers, Project Managers and MCR.

 

You will also be responsible for providing Logistics & Technical Support to cable operators & other Affiliates through the provision of knowledge based support, issuing of CA modules & viewing cards, and some associated Subscriber Management functions. This includes occasionally preparing and despatching small packages.

The role requires liaison across a wide range of internal and external contacts in order to understand the day-to-day distribution & logistics needs and to translate these into deliverable solutions on-time and within budget.

 

Essential

  • Degree in Broadcast or Engineering related discipline.
  • Knowledge of DVB, conditional access, terrestrial circuit and uplink systems.
  • Familiarity with concepts of IP networks, and of VPN, switches and routers.
  • Appreciation of current European DTH broadcasters and the role of CA systems & Simulcrypt.
  • Comfortable with responsibility for TV services when working on live broadcast systems.
  • Good understanding of core linear TV channel technologies, such as SDI, AES, Dolby.
  • Attention to detail, methodical approach to tasks.
  • Able to travel overseas for short periods, typically 2-3 days, four times per year.
  • Willing to challenge Suppliers and to seek out answers. 

Desirable

  • A Second European language.
  • A good demonstrable track record illustrating a successful similar role.
  • Familiar with the principles of project management.
  • Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Basic knowledge of ITIL Version 3 concepts and their application in IT based services.
  • A "can do attitude".
  • Deadline driven.
